This is for all the young ladies who are going through their transitional years or what I like to call it, their “rebirth.” A stage in life where you shed your skin of that naïve little girl and slowly emerge as your own identity of a woman as you dip your toes into the cold world of adulthood. It is the most confusing, yet most humbling experience, when those rosy colored glasses, and that sweet, innocent smile starts fading away once you begin taking in a different perception of how the world really works- the real reality, not just yours. You start to see that not everything is what it seemed or what you hoped it to be. Corruption, seemingly appear everywhere – in family, friends, and society itself. This so called “life” isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be. There seem to always be a negative to your positive, a darkness to your light, and that feeling of disappointment gets all too familiar.
Personally, it just feels like reality hit me right across the face. Each day, I am faced with a mirror in which I see the good and the bad in myself. Sometimes the image is so horrid that I am tempted to run away and submerge myself into a deep and long hibernation. But, that’s not how the world works; life goes on, with or without you. So it’s either you woman-up, step up to the plate, face your wrongs and do right or get left behind as everything else grows around you while you deprive yourself of growth and self-progression.
They say that your 20s is where you find yourself. This is supposedly the time where we are advised to soak it in, learn, grow and eventually emerge into that woman you envisioned yourself to be. There are obstacles in this journey but also many opportunities to change your life coarse for the better. Because when shit hit the fan, you have to be able to stand on your own two feet. You have to remember that you, no one else, are in control of your life and you have learn how to forgive and forget. Stop worrying about the future and other things you cannot control. Learn how to leave the past in the past because it happened and you can’t go back to change it. Allow yourself to make mistakes because there’s no way you can be perfect. We are all flawed because we are human. Just know that once you know better, you must do better; it is your responsibility.
So don’t get too jaded as you start facing the realities of life. We are all put on this Earth for a reason. Like a famous proverb passed on for years and years: “just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.”
Nothing worth having comes easy.
Enjoy this journey, drown out all the noise and start really listening to your inner voice- it will never steer you wrong.
I am a firm believer that once you start believing in yourself, you’ll learn to hone that power within, and conquer anything.
Be fearless. Stay dope. Stay true. And be you.
